Last Saturday night I attended Soli ’19. This annual concert celebrates the diverse talents of our Year 12 Music students and the performances were outstanding. I would like to thank the many people who make this night possible, the music teachers, technical, staging and administrative team, and the Friends of Music for their wonderful support.
The joint Aquatic Precinct is really taking shape and some recent drone footage of the development can be seen here. The next few weeks will see the preparation required to connect our current geothermal heating to the new pool, progress the spectator seating and the lighting and paving surrounding the pools. The project is currently running on time which means the pool will be fully operational in 2020. To find our how you can help to renovate our own Christ Church change rooms in time for the launch of the new Precinct, please click here for more information.
This week we announced the appointment of Rob Vickery as the Head of Jupp House. Rob joined Christ Church in 2014 and has held the positions of Assistant Head of Romsey and Assistant Head of English. Rob participated in the prestigious Leadership Western Australia program in 2016 and has always demonstrated exceptional pastoral care for our students, stemming from a very clear and developed vision of what excellent pastoral care in a school context should be. Rob will commence in the position in 2020. I am also delighted to announce that Warwick Yeates has been appointed as the Teacher in Charge of Rowing commencing in 2020. Warwick was interviewed earlier this week and you can watch the video here.
The heads of the PSA member schools meet throughout the year to discuss all aspects of sport for the boys. At a recent meeting we agreed to clarify with our parent bodies an aspect related to scholarships, and that is that in the spirit of collaboration and sportsmanship, no PSA school will offer sports scholarships. This can of course be a grey area as schools may follow their scholarship guidelines/criteria which can include reviewing academic results, a written reference from a current principal, sitting a test, an interview etc and offer a scholarship based on the boy meeting the criteria, however he may also be a talented sportsman.
Next week we are hosting an event to celebrate mothers/significant females in the lives of our Year 12 boys and the bond they share. The morning will commence with a special chapel service, followed by a morning tea in Manjar Square. During the morning tea mothers/significant females will have the opportunity to hear from Liam Casson, Director of The Wynne Centre for Boys’ Health and Wellbeing who will discuss the lead up to the Year 12 exams and life after Christ Church for the family. For more information on the event and to register your name for morning tea, please click here.
