On Tuesday morning, we hosted the first Parent Forum for 2024. The session provided information about our approach to phonics in the early years, the use of Teams and Artificial Intelligence, the co-curricular program on offer and the evidence-based School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework.

Our SWPBS fosters teaching and learning environments that:

  • explicitly teach boys expected behaviours and appropriate ways to interact within their community;
  • maximise academic engagement and achievement for all students;
  • are respectful and inclusive;
  • set high academic and behavioural expectations;
  • positively addresses classroom management; and
  • targets support for boys who require additional assistance for their behaviour and social and emotional wellbeing.

SWPBS is a proactive approach based on the belief that:

  • relationships are the foundation for social and academic achievement;
  • student achievement is maximised when staff develop positive classroom cultures that promote and exemplify positive student behaviour and interactions and make students feel that they are both cared for and supported to succeed;
  • the individual needs of students while some students benefit from individualised support; and
  • combined with a rigorous academic program, this learning framework enables learners to deeply apply their skills, knowledge, and social-emotional awareness to the world around them.

Throughout 2024, the Christ Church Preparatory School will be conducting four educational sessions titled ‘Parent Series’, covering relevant topics for our students’ development. The first session is for Pre-Kindy to Year 2 parents and takes place on Tuesday 20 February in the Preparatory staff room and will be facilitated by our School Psychologist, Kate Atkinson. Please check Year Group Notices for more information and a livestream link for those who can’t attend.

The session is on the topic of building resilience and will cover topics including:

  • What is emotional resilience?
  • What are the Building Block of Resilience?
  • How to name your emotions and express them appropriately
  • Coping strategies
  • Dealing with difficult emotions

Next week, the Preparatory School will be celebrating Ride to School Week, when we encourage all boys jump on their bike to look after the planet, as well as their physical health. Boys can ride with friends, family, or independently. Every student will receive a raffle ticket each day that they ride to school during Week 4, which will put them in the draw for a daily prize. We look forward to seeing the boys on their bikes!

Congratulations to the following Building Good Men recipients for this week.
