Over the past two weeks, students have been provided the opportunity to participate in a number of interhouse competitions during lunchtime. The interhouse vortex competition was a huge success with many boys either participating in the games or cheering on from the sidelines. Kearla ended up taking out the title, with Karda, Wardung and Yonga close behind. On Tuesday, boys participated in the Balloon Up competition, hosted by Wardung in Manjar Square. Once again, Kearla was triumphant with all boys to be commended on their efforts.
This week we celebrate Neurodiversity Week. The boys have been exposed to interesting information and powerful conversations that have taken place in all classrooms across the Preparatory School. The book ‘The Brain Forrest’ by Sandhya Menon has sparked discussions among students and has encouraged them to celebrate and be proud of neurodiverse students within our school. Boys have also been able to identify what their ‘Neurostrengths’ are and how we can all support each other when our brains need different things to function at their best. At Christ Church, we are proud of our inclusive culture, and we aim to support and empower students with learning disorders, disabilities, and other neurodivergent conditions.
‘Neurodiversity may be every bit as crucial for the human race as biodiversity is for life in general. Who can say what form of wiring will be best at any given moment?’
– Harvey Blume
At the conclusion of Term 1, students will receive their mid-semester reports. These reports are designed to inform you of your son’s progress to date. In Years 1 to 6, progress and effort are indicated for all Learning Areas. In some Learning Areas, boys may have only completed one assessment for the term and as such, a more detailed overview of your son’s achievement will be evident in the Semester 1 Academic Report. Pre-Primary students will receive their Learning Dispositions, which accompanies the suite of reports sent home earlier in the term. Parents of Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten boys, who are guided by the Early Years Learning Framework, will receive feedback on how your son is progressing with interactions with his teachers, peers and developing his sense of self and agency when at school.
Reading is a wonderful holiday activity that promotes learning while offering hours of entertainment. For boys looking to read some excellent books during the upcoming holidays, you can view our recommended holiday reading list here.
I would like to thank all families for your support during a busy Term 1 and would like to wish our Christ Church community a restful Easter break and holiday. I look forward to seeing you back on campus on Tuesday 16 April.
