At Christ Church your son will be part of a diverse and caring community supported by exceptional pastoral care.
Boarders have been a vital part of our school community for more than a century. Coming from different regional and international backgrounds, boarders contribute to a diverse residential community supported by exceptional pastoral care. In this home away from home, boys form life-long friendships, develop independence and learn the importance of co-operation and empathy in a tight-knit community. More than 100 boarders, from Years 7 to 12, are housed in two boarding houses overlooking the Swan River – click here. The boys have their own dining room and recreational spaces and access to the school campus, including the gymnasium, both after school and on weekends. In addition, our modern Health Centre staffed by a team of registered nurses, is located adjacent to the Residential Community and provides boarders with 24-hour medical cover. Our Boarding Recreation Officer ensures the boys enjoy an exciting recreational program.
In this home away from home, boarders join their assigned House ‘family’ and are part of a supportive community of boys from across the globe, often forming life-long friendships. Boarding helps boys develop their independence and learn the importance of co-operation and empathy in a tight-knit community
Our boarders thrive in a network of care. In the day school, a boy’s Head of House and Tutor monitor his academic and co-curricular progress, while the Year Group Co-ordinator, who lives in the Residential Community and is also an academic member of staff, is responsible for supporting and nurturing the boarders in a particular year group. The Year Group Co-ordinators and the Director of the Residential Community deal with residential issues and liaise with key staff in the day school when necessary. They facilitate team building and communication between and across year groups to give the boarders a real sense of identity at Christ Church. Click on Square of Care for more information.
The Boarding Recreation Officer co-ordinates weekend activities to get the boys involved. There is never a dull moment. The residential staff organise weekend outings that include trips to Adventure World, Underwater World, Timezone, snorkelling at Rottnest and activities such as socials and movies.
There are also basketball, soccer and table tennis competitions. Every second year residential staff organise a social for boys in Years 9 to 12 with girls from neighbouring schools. Mid-week outings such as a visit to the Observatory, the Playhouse and special events are also sometimes on the agenda. These include dinners with girls from Methodist Ladies’ College and St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls.
Boarders are encouraged to play for local sporting teams as well as for the School, and groups are often taken to watch test cricket matches and AFL football games.

At Christ Church, we understand that some busy working families need assistance and that from time to time students benefit from more structure in their lives. With this in mind, the School has introduced Urban Boarding, with two boarding options offered:
- Day Boarding – catering for students from Years 7 to 12, from 3.05pm until 8.00pm from Monday to Thursday.
- Short Term Boarding – catering for students from Years 7 to 12, providing short term stays in the boarding house.
