Award-winning author and illustrator Karen Blair recently visited the Preparatory School and inspired our budding authors to add a spark to their story writing.

Karen, previously a Christ Church Art teacher, now enjoys writing and illustrating her own books. She worked with the Make Your Own Storybook group, discussing various aspects of developing characters, events and inspiring illustrations. The boys were also fortunate to hear how Karen builds her stories, the way she learns to draw difficult characters and how to make the storyline and characters fit together.

Mary Hookey, Teacher Librarian, said the boys were glued to Karen’s talk and thoroughly enjoyed working on the tasks she gave them to make their stories a reality.

The Pre-Primary boys had the pleasure of meeting Karen in the afternoon, when she read her book Granny Grommet and Me, before explaining her drawing process.
