Finn Retallack has five-thousand reasons to celebrate.

The Year 12  student was announced winner of the Magellan Investor Evening competition, held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, and presented with a $5000 investment in the Magellan Global Fund.

The announcement came as a shock to Finn who attended the February event with over 30 Economics students from Christ Church.

Attendees on the evening heard from Magellan Chairman and Chief Investment Officer Hamish Douglass and guest speaker, former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morrell, who spoke about managing risk and his time at the CIA during 9/11. Proceeds of the night went to three charities; Rural Aid, Reach and Fly High Billie.

“At the start of the evening all attendees were invited to download the Magellan smartphone app and along the way were asked a series of questions to which you had to respond to within the app. These questions were related to the seminar content being presented,” says Finn.

“The following month I found out I had won the competition – a real surprise!”

“For now, I plan to grow the investment and re-evaluate all options later down the track.”

Christ Church Head of Humanities, Mr Patrick Parker commented, “I’m sure after Finn’s good fortune that this competition may be even more popular next year.”

The opportunity to attend the investor evening was initiated through the Year 12 Economics course.
