As part of the Extension Humanities program, students from Year 7 recently visited the University of Western Australia’s Classics and Ancient History Department.

On arrival, students were met by Senior Lecturer Dr Lara Louise O’Sullivan, who put the boys through their paces examining Ancient Greek sources.

“The focus of the morning was the Ancient Olympics, and our boys impressed the university staff and undergraduates with their knowledge and analytical skill,” explains Humanities Teacher, Mr Richard Spence.

“No study of the Olympics could be complete without a sprint (known as the stade in Greek), and our boys were delighted to have the chance to race across the UWA oval.”

“The boys were taught about the ‘winner takes all’ mentality of the Ancient Olympics, however with their exposure to high level teaching by the UWA staff and their outstanding behaviour throughout the day, all our boys were winners!”
