Christ Church won the upper and lower secondary divisions of the Have Sum Fun mathematics competition held in March. It is the third consecutive year that Christ Church has won first prize in both divisions.

The competition, run by the Mathematical Association of WA (MAWA), is an exciting initiative using a quiz night format. Head of Mathematics Jan Honnens said the School entered six teams across the two divisions in which teams of six students race against the clock to solve four rounds of eight challenging problems.

As well as claiming first place in both divisions, all six Christ Church teams finished within the top six in of their respective divisions. The winning team members were:

Upper secondary division

Joseph Brough – Year 11

Albert Qiu – Year 11

Samuel Thompson – Year 11

Lower secondary division

Leo Li – Year 10

Nicholas Pizzino – Year 10

Kohsuke Sato – Year 9

Keaton Wright – Year 9

William Hu – Year 8

Oliver Terry – Year 8

Mr Honnens said he was delighted with the boys’ performance in the first of the schools’ mathematics competitions for the year.
