This week, Paul Litherland visited the School to deliver presentations to students, staff, and parents on cyber safety and online awareness.
A former Western Australia Police officer with more than 20 years of experience, and the 2022 Western Australian Australian of the Year, Paul is the founder of Surf Online Safe and is widely recognised as one of Australia’s leading voices in cyber safety education.
Across a series of sessions with students from Years 4 to 8, along with staff and our parent community, Paul shared practical insights informed by his ongoing work with government agencies and his role in shaping responses to emerging online challenges. His presentations explored digital citizenship, online behaviours, managing digital footprints, social networking platforms, and the risks and opportunities linked to gaming and internet use.
He also addressed current issues including the proposed social media ban, the role of technology companies, and the rise of online scams targeting young people.
Families and staff gained clear, practical strategies to better support children in navigating the digital world safely.
Director of the Centre for Health and Wellbeing, Brad Gardner, said, “Paul has been working with Christ Church Grammar School for nine years, and his message is as relevant now as ever. In a fast-moving digital world, staying ahead matters. Educating our boys is critical, but so is equipping parents and staff with the knowledge to lead. His work keeps our community informed, proactive, and ready to respond.”
