Students sleep out to support youth homelessness

On Friday night, fifteen Year 10 students joined hundreds of others at Optus Stadium for the Anglicare WA Sleep Out, an event that raises funds for Anglicare WA’s Street Connect service, which supports young people experiencing homelessness.
More than just a fundraiser, the event gave students a powerful insight into the realities of homelessness. Through simulation activities, personal stories shared by those with lived experience, and a night spent sleeping on the cold concrete floor of the stadium, students gained a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness each day.
Lucas Wei shared, “The event was inspiring, from the speakers and staff to the way it engaged us and changed our perspectives afterwards. It was an eye-opener and definitely one of my highlights of Senior School so far.”
Mitchell Colman added, “Anglicare Sleep Out was hands down the best event I’ve attended this year. I’m so glad to give back to the community and shine a light on an issue that deserves more attention.”
Jake Carlson reflected, “Sleeping on cardboard on a cold concrete floor was challenging, but it made the night all the more meaningful and rewarding.”
A big thank you goes to staff members Kim Rutland, Noel Patterson, and Dominie Jennings, who attended and supported the students throughout the event.
