From shaving their heads to sleeping rough for a night, students and staff have recently stepped up to support others, raising more than $68,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation and Anglicare WA.

On Monday, 61 Year 12 students and staff took part in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave, raising more than $62,000 to support Australians living with blood cancer and surpassing the School’s $50,000 fundraising goal.

The Refectory was buzzing with the sound of clippers and cheers as participants shaved or cut their hair to raise funds for life-changing research and essential support services.

Year 12 student Rohan Shetty raised an impressive $2,855 through his fundraising efforts.

“Participating in the World’s Greatest Shave was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had, as it allowed me to contribute to a cause that affects so many individuals and families. Beyond raising funds, it reinforced the importance of community, as the Class of 2026 came together and supported one another during one of our final opportunities to do so.”

Last Friday night, 22 Year 10 students and three staff members took part in the Anglicare WA School Sleep Out at the WACA Ground, joining more than 500 students from more than 20 schools across WA.

The CCGS group was made up of the School’s Anglicare Ambassadors, who volunteer throughout the year to support Anglicare initiatives. During the Sleep Out, students took part in activities exploring the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness and heard directly from a young person about her experience. The experience gave students firsthand insight into the realities of homelessness and the impact of Street Connect, Anglicare WA’s service supporting young people experiencing homelessness. Funds raised through the Sleep Out will help support young people sleeping rough on the streets of Perth.

Zachary Kaplanian (Year 10) said the experience gave him a greater understanding of what homelessness can look like.

“The Anglicare Sleepout was an amazing and insightful experience in which we immersed ourselves in the difficult challenges that a homeless person experiences. Overall, I loved the experience as it gave me a chance to meet so many new people and gave all of us an insight into how rough a homeless persons life can be.”

Ben Gregory (Year 10) said spending the night at the WACA was a powerful reminder of how much is often taken for granted.

“Spending a night at the WACA stadium for the Anglicare Sleep Out was truly an eye opener. From the cardboard mattress on the hard concrete, to waking up at 2.00am and being shivering cold, I gained a small understanding about what’s it’s like being homeless. I am beyond grateful that Christ Church was able to raise money for such a great cause”
