Students in action over the school holidays
Published on: 23 April 2026
Over the school holidays, a number of our students took part in enriching tours and experiences, making the most of opportunities to learn and grow beyond the classroom.
Japan Tour
A group of students took part in the exchange program at Hotoku Gakuen High School, a private boys’ school in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. This year marked 37 years of partnership between the two schools. Students stayed with host families and joined classes alongside Japanese students, engaging in daily school life and gaining valuable insight into a different education system while continuing to develop their Japanese language skills.
Prior to the exchange, the group travelled through Osaka, Hiroshima, and Tokyo. Highlights included panoramic views from the Umeda Sky Building, a visit to the Australian Embassy, an immersive experience at TeamLab Borderless, and attending a baseball game.
MGS International Hockey Tournament (Melbourne)
A group of 16 students competed in the MGS International Hockey Tournament, facing schools from across Australia and New Zealand. Christ Church has a strong history in the competition, having won in 2016 and 2018.
In a closely contested playoff for third place, the team defeated The Hutchins School (Tasmania) to secure the bronze medal. The match carried added significance, with Principal Mr Alan Jones – former Principal of The Hutchins School – in attendance.
AFL Training Camp (Albany)
Several students attended an AFL training camp in Albany in preparation for the winter season. The program included beach training sessions, strength and conditioning, skills development, and a scratch match against Great Southern Storm.
The camp also strengthened connections with the Albany community and boarding families, with a BBQ providing a highlight of the week.
