Year 11 Design students explore Perth Zoo
Published on: 12 March 2026
This week, the Year 11 ATAR Design students visited Perth Zoo as part of their current design project.
The excursion encouraged students to view the zoo through a designer’s lens, observing how visitors interact with spaces, signage and exhibits throughout the grounds. As they explored different areas of the zoo, students considered how design influences the visitor experience and identified opportunities for improvement. Students examined wayfinding, visitor movement and exhibit layouts, recording their observations through sketches, notes and photographs.
These insights will inform the next stage of their project, where students will develop creative ideas to enhance the zoo visitor experience. The excursion provided a valuable opportunity to undertake real-world research and apply their learning beyond the classroom.
