The annual Christ Church-St Hilda’s Combined Concert, held at St Hilda’s Performing Arts Centre, drew an audience of more than 750 people last Friday evening.

Director of Music Kevin Gillam said about 360 boys and girls performed in the combined concert including members of the School’s Senior Choir, Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Senior Concert Band, Jazz Band 1 as well as the Preparatory School’s Yahoos choir.

Christ Church music teacher Rhiannon Taylor conducted this year’s big opening piece, Vivaldi’s Gloria, featuring the School’s Chamber Orchestra, Senior Choir and Yahoos. Mr Gillam said the piece also featured vocal solos by Thomas McQuillan (Year 8), James Chapman (Year 9) and Timothy Claxton (Year 9).

Other pieces ranged from classical to jazz with many boys involved in multiple ensembles.

Mr Gillam said the evening finished with two big combined jazz band pieces conducted by Christ Church music teacher Paul Millard and St Hilda’s Director of Music Tim Chapman. “The shared sound from the jazz ensemble was incredible and added another highlight to a wonderful evening of music,” he said.
