10 Year Reunion (Class of 2003)

Denis Warnick reports from 10 Year Reunion:
The Class of 2003 put in an excellent showing for its 10 Year Reunion on 21 December at Steves in Nedlands. The boys turned out in good numbers with 70 in attendance. Christ Church prides itself on producing well-rounded boys and some boys were certainly even more well rounded than when we all parted ways in 2003, particularly around the waist and face.
Pictured above are star pupils Andrew Winterbottom and Thomas Spencer exhibiting some of their skills holding three full pints of beer each.
Some boys were also carrying a little less hair on top, not Tom McGown however, who came sporting an impressive Amish/Wolverine-style beard. Adam Crockett also seemed to have the trend reversed with his clean shaved back and sides and thick sweeping mop on top setting some sort of a trend. Perhaps he lost a bet. Special mention also goes to Alistair ‘what dress code’ Black.
The usual array of doctors, lawyers and finance guys was interspersed with boat skippers, business owners, gentleman of leisure, aspiring politicians, career students, physios, soldiers, government advisers, statisticians, insurance brokers and much more.
We are a far-flung and well-travelled group. A lot of the boys made significant effort to get in to Perth for the reunion. Many of the boys have sought further education and careers in oh-so-trendy-Melbourne. A notable effort was James Thompson flying in from Darwin where he is stationed with the Army. Tom Spencer too made his way from France, where he is working in environmental policy with the UN. Peter Honey and Andrew Winterbottom also jetted in from Oxford University. Andrew Pole was disappointed to relinquish his title of the year group’s tallest boy; his 6 foot 6 inches was dwarfed by Kirby Rourke who had flown in, very cramped in an airplane, from his job (possibly with the circus) in Canberra to take that title at a towering 6 foot 10 inches.
Paul Pracilio said the night was full of highlights, too numerous to mention, however if he had to narrow it down it was probably the mini steak burgers, closely followed by juicy lamb chops. Paul did say however that he was disappointed with the lack of whole chickens and raw sausages.
The now late 20s crowd was remarkably well presented, sensible and ‘grown-up’. As the drinks began to flow, it was not long before we were the same 17-year-old boys interacting with the same relaxed and natural way we did 10 years ago. In fact for many on the night, those 10 years seemed only a blink in time.
It was a great night with many memories rehashed and friendships rekindled. It’s a tremendous way to keep old friends in touch, and to remind us of the great years we had at Christ Church. I encourage the boys to turn out in even greater numbers at our next OBA engagement. Thanks to Andrew Baird and the OBA for assisting us in making our reunion such a success.
