David has provided a video of a ceremony at the War Memorial Canberra on 6 January 2015. To view, click here.

The ceremony tells the story of his uncle Peter Septimus (Sep) Utting (1940) killed on HMAS Australia, the target of a Kamikaze attack on 6 January 1945 aged 21 years. Click here to read telegram. Sep graduated from Christ Church in 1940 having excelled at cricket, football, swimming and boxing. Instead of attending university he enlisted in the Navy in March 1941, was posted to HMAS Leeuwin and then sent to HMAS Cerberus before being posted in July 1942 to serve on heavy cruiser HMAS Australia. Sep’s father James Horatio UTTING is incorrectly named as Peter in the story. Sep Utting’s older brother John Utting (1938) served with distinction in the RAAF and died in 2014. Richard Utting was killed in action in the Atlantic Ocean when his ship the Ceramic was torpedoed by a German U boat.
