40 Year Reunion – Class of 1974
Published on: 26 May 2014
It was a bit surreal realising that you are standing amongst guys you went to school with 40 years ago! Whilst having mellowed, what the evening really showed was that there was still a ‘fire in the belly’ of every member of the Class of 1974. The sense of humour was acute, the creativity and the competitiveness that made our year special to us was in full evidence. Forty class members attended the Barchetta Restaurant on the beachfront at Cottesloe to watch the sunset and have a seriously good catch up. There were 17 apologies from people who really did want to be there but could not make it and there were some who travelled long and far – Ian Avery, from Geraldton; Peter Butler, from south of Dawesville; David Crooke, from Sydney (designated photographer for the night); and Roderick Smith, from London via South Africa (great effort Smithy). The reunion was scheduled to end at 9.00pm and went on until well after 11.00pm – evidence of a great time. We talked about our year and remembered those not with us anymore and had a toast to all who could not make it. Some impromptu speeches raised a laugh so thank you to all of you who took the time – it really was a great night. Through the process a number of you who were ‘lost’ were found. Thank you to Andrew Baird for his work in getting us all together and if you want to catch up with anyone, Andrew or I have a list of contacts. See you at the next reunion!
