Last year we reported old boy Jay Lawry (1972) was launching his first book The Scenic Route to Paradise. Since then, Jay reports he has been humbled by the wonderful feedback he has received about his account of sailing around the world on a 32-foot timber yacht with his mother. Jay writes: “I first saw sailing boats when sitting on the cliffs near the old Craigie House, where the School Chapel is now, looking out over the racing fleets in Claremont Bay and beyond. The Scenic Route to Paradise is the account of all that led from those first glimpses of Swan River sailing through the many sea adventures to finally taking my mother on a world circumnavigation. The voyage followed an unusual route not as adventurous as that of Jon Sanders and included many thousands of miles solo. My mother sailed with me several times and her accounts of the adventure are included to give a different perspective.” To see an interview with Jay, click here. The Scenic Route to Paradise (RRP $30) is available from Jay at distanthorizon@rocketmail.com, www.loveofbooks.com, www.amazon.com or from the Chart and Map Shop Fremantle, Western Australian Maritime Museum bookshops and Boat Books Australia.
