OBA Vs OSC ‘Festival of the Boot’ – 9 August
Published on: 18 August 2015
It’s only fitting that coming into the week of the Western Derby we celebrated the most important derby on Perth’s sporting calendar. Yes, that’s right, the battle between CCGS Old Boys (OBA) and Old Scotch Collegians (OSC), also known as the Old Firm Derby!
The naive believed that members of the Old Firm had left their sporting battles behind when they graduated from their respective Schools, how wrong they were. On Sunday 9 August 2015, over 300 spectators packed into Scotch’s Memorial Grounds to watch 170 old boys, and not so old boys, go to war on the football, rugby, soccer and hockey fields to play for the perpetual trophy.
The Wright Avenue battlefields displayed a mixture of skill, laughs, embarrassments and swagger, all of which were called on the day system by the OBA’s representative Tim Gossage and OSC’s representative Adrian Barich.
Sadly for the OBA, the 2015 Old Firm Derby saw OSC take out the perpetual trophy with a win in all four sports.
The trophy was awarded to OSC President Michael Silbert at the after match presentation ceremony held at the OBA ‘clubhouse’, the Claremont Yacht Club, in front of over 150 players and supporters.
A big thank you to our sports captains – Rugby: George Hagget (2011), Hockey: Grant Shepherd (2007) and Mark Boyne (2002), Soccer: Fergus McCleary (2013), and Football: James Balfour (2002) and Matthew Caddy (2003).
Thanks are extended to OSC’s representatives Michael Silbert, Elliot Raitor and Lance Quartermaine for the preparation of the venue and its facilities.
Next year the cup will be ours to drink from! Click here for the photo gallery.
