Old boy surf life saving president looking for new members
Published on: 16 April 2014
Past OBA President Chris Shellabear (1974) has been involved with North Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club (NCSLSC) for about 25 years and in 2013 became Club President. Chris, whose three daughters are all involved in surf life saving, said NCSLSC was a very proud club with a strong, working class ethos and a focus on maintaining a well patrolled and safe beach, training young and older members as well as competing at national and international level. This includes boys from Christ Church’s Surf Life Saving Cadets program, who train with the NCSLSC team to receive their Bronze Medallions. A number of Christ Church old boys are members, many of whom have been involved in surfboat rowing. “We have also taken a role in helping the wider community through an association with ICEA Foundation, in which many of our younger members are involved.” The club is currently completing its new clubrooms, which has increased office and training capacity as well as gym area. Chris would welcome any old boys to consider NCSLSC if they want to become an active surf lifesaver.
