PSA Golf Trophy 002

Despite not winning (fifth by 10 points) and with Aquinas first, we had a great day with a full field of 12 CCGS representatives. Top score of the day was 43 points from some Hale hacker and there were two others with 40 plus points at a really top day for golf. Good CCGS scores came from Kim Craig (1968) with 37 Stableford points, Jon Sandford (1970) with 35, Robin Dunn (staff) with 35 and David (Tex) McKenzie (1969) with 34.

Despite only ending up with 32 points, Mark MacLeod (1973) had the closest to the pin on the first shotgun hole (par 3, fifth hole) and sunk the putt for five points. Only a golfer will understand how tough it is to get five points under the Stableford format and he received a very nice bottle of Conti wine for his efforts. Unfortunately, it was drunk on the 19th hole as both Sandy and Mark had drives on the sixth hole, which didn’t even make the ladies tee. A fine of a bottle of red each!

Toff Craig starred later on when he took out the closest to the pin on the par 3, 13th (a brute of a hole – 170m into the breeze) by putting it eight inches from the hole and got a bottle of wine for his trouble. Toff managed to take that bottle home because he also got another bottle for his 37-point effort!

Other CCGS boys on the fairway were Ian Hutton (1966), Peter Harley (1967), Geoff Potter (1967), Rex Townsend (1967), Steve Forgan (1984) and Seb Campbell (1996).

Cottesloe was in great nick and enjoyed by all. The event is growing strongly now and the numbers are no longer dominated by our friends across the highway so we believe we have seen an end to some recent dominance by the Scotch crew.

I can also report that in keeping with tradition, we Christ Church boys were once again last to leave so although we didn’t win we certainly made our mark with the Cottesloe staff and their coffers.
