Youth World Champions for Neptune Racing!
Published on: 21 October 2015
We have a world champion in Sam Gilmour (2010) who skippered his team ‘Neptune Racing’ throughout a week of racing held in Świnoujście, Poland, experiencing some incredibly exciting matches that included two black flag (disqualification) penalties along the way. Neptune Racing won the 2015 Youth World Match Racing Championships, with a 3-1 final victory over the Danish team skippered by Joachim Aschenbrenner.
Speaking about the event after the finish, skipper Sam Gilmour said “the guys on board really did an outstanding job this week. Conditions were pretty variable and the team came together at relatively short notice.” The team consisted of Sam Gilmour skippering, Adam Negri as mainsheet and tactician, Niall Morrow on jib and spinnaker trim and Cameron Seagreen as bowman.
Sam was interviewed in the lead up to racing Aschenbrenner. You can see this interview here, as well as the final highlight video here.
This regatta marks the final event for Neptune Racing in their three month tour of the USA and Europe. The team came away having wins at the Detroit Cup and Baltic Match Cup (Estonia), as well as winning the overall trophy for the US Grand Slam Series.
