Ride to School Week
Autism Awareness Week
Maggie Dent presentation

The Ride to School Week initiative is a collaboration between the Student Wellbeing Committee and the Environmental Committee. They are encouraging the students at Christ Church to ride their bikes as a way of driving cultural change within our school community to make riding to school the norm for our students. This student led initiative will be taking place from Friday 25 March (Official Ride to School Day) until Friday 1 April.

The focus of Ride to School Week is to develop awareness about our environmental impact around transport and our ability to affect change through reducing the reliance on motor vehicles is a small step. The other positive effect of riding is an improvement of your physical health through cardiovascular activity and the overall mental health benefits of a healthier lifestyle. If it is possible for your son to ride his bike to school in the next week, for even a couple of days, that would greatly support this initiative.

Our Peter Moyes Centre (PMC) students have been working hard this week on the promotion of Autism Awareness Week. Today the Senior School watched a great video production by the PMC boys that gave us some details about the week ahead. The boys have developed a small business called the ‘Baker Boys’ and they will be providing some their product for sale next week and the whole school is being asked to wear their ‘blue’ socks next week in support of Autism Awareness. They will also be providing a range of other lunchtime activities for Senior School boys to participate in. Well done, boys!

Maggie Dent the well-known author and presenter on children and their developing years has been engaged by the school and her presentation, ‘From the Sandpit to Adulthood: Helping Today’s Children to Thrive’, is now available for Christ Church parents.

This presentation is full of common sense and inspiration for parents and communities raising children throughout their childhoods and adolescence. Every parent wants their children to thrive – to grow up happy, healthy, strong, kind, and capable of realising their full potential. In this seminar, Maggie explores the 10 keys to parenting that support this goal. This seminar can be accessed here via Nexus or the Year Group Notices.

Pre Primary to Year 3 Swimming Lessons – Term 4

Students from Pre-Primary to Year 3 will take part in swimming lessons during Term 4 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays in Weeks 2 to 4 (20 October to 5 November) in our heated school pool.

Lessons will conclude with the Pre-Primary to Year 2 Swimming Carnival on Tuesday 11 November at 9.00am, followed by the Year 3 to 6 House Swimming Carnival at 11.00am.

If your son is new to the School or in Pre-Primary, please email his current swimming level and swim school to McKenzie Pugh (mpugh@ccgs.wa.edu.au). Returning students from Term 4, 2024, will be grouped by previous ability.

After each lesson, boys will change into school uniforms in classrooms (unless medically exempt). Group placements will be reviewed and adjusted if necessary.

What to bring:
- CCGS bathers
- CCGS rash top
- Goggles
- Towel
- Thongs or slides
Lesson times will be shared in the coming weeks.

Due to poor weather conditions, the Lapathon was postponed. The new date for the Lapathon will be Tuesday 16 September. Once again, this year all funds will be going towards Camp Quality, an organisation with several programs designed to help children navigate cancer. Your son’s running time will be announced through the weekly newsletter for Week 9.

Year 4 Rugby Carnival

All Year 4 students will be participating in the Rugby Carnival with Hale School and Scotch College. Students will each play three games of seven-a-side Viva 7’s Rugby (non-contact) with the first game scheduled to start at approximately 1.15pm and the third game to conclude around 2.30pm. Please be aware that scores will not be kept as this is a participation-based event. The purpose of the carnival program is to further develop sportsmanship, respect for others and character and to have fun. It must be remembered that these carnivals are designed to cater for students of all abilities and experience levels.

Date: Thursday 18 September
Time: 12.45pm to 2.40pm
Venue: Hale School
To bring: Mouthguard, Normal PE/sport uniform, hat, clearly labelled water bottle. Students are allowed to wear football boots, but not compulsory.

All students should come to school dressed in their correct sports uniform on the day. Students should wear their CCGS shirt not their house shirt.

Registrations for the Term 4 Co-curricular activities will open on Monday 22 September at 4.00pm and close on Tuesday 14 October at 10.00am.

Lapathon – New Date

Due to poor weather conditions, the Lapathon was postponed. The new date for the Lapathon will be Tuesday 16 September. Once again, this year all funds will be going towards Camp Quality, an organisation with several programs designed to help children navigate cancer. Your son’s running time will be announced through the weekly newsletter for Week 9.

The final Blazer Run for all Year Groups will commence on Thursday 11 September and finish Thursday 25 September. The Blazer Run is for the embroidery of Sport, Service, Cultural, Colours and Honour Awards for Year 7 to 12 and for Senior Braid for Years 11 and 12.

Please ensure your Blazer is taken to the Uniform Shop from 11 September during opening hours with badges removed and your Blazer clearly named. All Blazers will be dry cleaned during the embroidery process unless the Blazer is new. All costs will be charged to your school account.

This will be the last opportunity for Year 12s to have their Blazers embroidered before the end of school and ready for Valedictory.
Any Year 11s without Senior Braid need to have this embroidery done heading into Year 12.

Prospective Medical and Dental Students

If you are a rural/regional applicant and believe that your ATAR score will be competitive (ideally approximately 93+), or if you are a non-rural applicant and believe that your ATAR and UCAT scores will be competitive (ideally approximately 96+), please consider doing the following:

1. Apply to multiple universities across Australia. Do not limit your options by just applying to your local university.
NIE will be running a comprehensive online Applications Guidance Workshop on Sunday 14 of September. This will be your last chance to attend this program, as it will be the final one before applications close for 2025.

2. Interview training is paramount! If you have not engaged in any interview training, please do so immediately. The first step is to take part in one of our Comprehensive Interview Training Workshops. From there, you will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to continue your own preparation, or if you need more help, you can book 1-on-1 personalised interview coaching with NIE.

Students who are unwell and unable to attend an examination are required to see a doctor and submit a Medical Certificate to studies@ccgs.wa.edu.au within 48 hours of the missed exam.

If a student chooses to sit an examination while unwell and their performance is affected, please note that a review or adjustment of marks will not be possible.

Personalised practical examination timetable

Year 12 students who study subjects with a practical component should download their Personalised practical examination timetable from the SCSA student portal here and take a signed hard copy of this timetable to their practical examination. Students should re-check their timetable in the portal the day prior to their examination to ensure all examination details are the same, particularly the venue.

UWA Engineering Excellence Scholarship

UWA provides this scholarship of $10000 to eligible high-achieving Year 12 students (ATAR of at least 90) to undertake undergraduate studies in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Combined bachelor’s degrees that include the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours).

Curtin Excellence Scholarship

The Curtin Excellence Scholarship rewards students who have demonstrated academic excellence through their ATAR in 2025 and want to pursue study at Curtin University. $5000 is awarded to students who achieve an ATAR between 96 and 98, and $15000 is awarded to students who achieve an ATAR of 98 or above.

Blazer Run

The final Blazer Run for all Year Groups will commence on Thursday 11 September and finish Thursday 25 September. The Blazer Run is for the embroidery of Sport, Service, Cultural, Colours and Honour Awards for Year 7 to 12 and for Senior Braid for Years 11 and 12.

Please ensure your Blazer is taken to the Uniform Shop from 11 September during opening hours with badges removed and your Blazer clearly named. All Blazers will be dry cleaned during the embroidery process unless the Blazer is new. All costs will be charged to your school account.

This will be the last opportunity for Year 12s to have their Blazers embroidered before the end of school and ready for Valedictory.
Any Year 11s without Senior Braid need to have this embroidery done heading into Year 12.

Online Silent Auction (Supporting the OBA Pavilion Challenge)

In 2025, the School and Old Boys are coming together to raise $2.5 million for a new, purpose-built sports pavilion – a facility designed to serve both current students and the Old Boy community.

Saturday Family Service

Our next monthly Saturday Family Service is Saturday 20 September at 5.00pm. The service will be held at Christ Church Claremont (the church on the corner of Stirling Highway and Queenslea Drive) for CCGS families and the general public. This is a service designed for and enjoyed by children and youth, but anyone of any age is welcome. It is a simple and interactive 45-minute service of Holy Communion. Families are welcome to stay afterwards for tasty treats in the hall. Service dates for the remainder of the year are:

- Saturday 29 November

2026 MSC Traineeship Program

MSC is offering an exciting traineeship opportunity for one Year 12 graduate in each state, commencing in February 2026. Successful applicants will gain hands-on experience while completing a Certificate III in Business (fully funded by MSC).

Term 3 Expectations for Year 12s

ATAR students

Parents are asked to note the following details of the School’s processes and expectations for Year 12 ATAR students as we near the second half of the term:
- Weeks 6 to 8: classes and assessments as normal; teachers will still be delivering course content and revising for the exams.
- Week 9: Boys are on Study Leave on Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 September. Students can work at home or come into school to utilise the library or other areas to study. Should they wish to meet with a staff member, they should email the teacher in advance to organise this. Students need to wear school uniform when attending the campus. Please note that some practical and oral examinations will be held during this time.
- The Trial examinations start on Wednesday 17 September and finish on Friday 26 September. Any student who is too ill to sit an exam needs to see a doctor and submit a Medical Certificate within 48 hours of the missed assessment.
Non-ATAR students

Parents are asked to note the following details of the School’s processes and expectations for Year 12 Non-ATAR students as we near the end of term:
- ·Weeks 6 to 8: classes and assessments as normal.
- Week 9 to Week 10: there will be no formal classes; all students are expected to be involved in Work Experience during this period, organised by Mr James McMahon. Students who study a mix of General and ATAR courses will need to study for and complete their Trial examination(s).

ATARget Master Classes – Term 3

These small group sessions provide ATAR students with quality academic support, reinforcing and consolidating skills and processes learnt in class. They are an excellent way of consolidating syllabus content in preparation for final school exams. They offer students a structured program with access to experienced ATAR teachers where they can discuss their concerns and shore up any weaknesses before the start of their final school examinations in September. Classes are held on weekends during term time. Students can enrol at any time during the term and simply pay a pro rata fee. For more information and bookings, please visit the MMA website.

Curtin University Medicine – Casper Test

Students who wish to apply to Curtin University (Medicine) this year, apart from the UCAT, applicants will also need to register and complete the Casper Test, which is conducted by Acuity Insights.
- Applicants will be ranked for the interview offer on the basis of their Casper score, UCAT score and ATAR.
- All applicants (other than Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders) must complete the Casper Test.
- School leavers and Curtin Course Switchers must sit the Undergraduate Casper Test. Non-school Leavers (Graduates) will have to sit the Postgraduate Casper Test.
- Casper scores are valid only for the next available admissions year. Applicants should only complete the test in the year immediately preceding their planned year of admission. Applicants re-applying for the Medical Entry in a subsequent year must re-sit the Casper Test.
- The Casper Test is held nationally and is sat online from home.
- Applicants are responsible for making their own arrangements to register for the Casper Test. Please refer to the Acuity Insights website to register for the test.
Casper 2025 test dates:
- 11 September at 5.00pm (AWST)
- 5 October at 7.00am (AWST)
