Growing a culture of philanthropy is an important aspect of a Christ Church education. Every year the boys, in their Houses, select a charity that they would like to assist. This is such a special time of the year as it brings everyone together creating a wonderful partnership – the boys, the School and the broader community. Over time the fundraising events have become quite creative. On Saturday, the Jupp Joggers took to Leighton Beach for a 2km run to raise funds for Zero2Hero, a WA-based charity that provides mental health and suicide prevention programs to youth across the state. Then back at school, this Saturday the Noake Games III will be run with monies raised going to Youth Focus. All of the activities are designed to get every boy involved in ‘giving to others’ and developing a sense of assisting those less fortunate and in need. I thank all participants for their engagement to date and encourage families to give generously to these worthy causes.
Last Friday, the Senior School participated in a closely contested House Athletics Carnival. The weather conditions were perfect and House spirits were high. Craigie House claimed a comfortable victory from Jupp, then Queenslea, and there was little separating the remaining Houses. The results from the House Athletics Carnival have enabled coaches to select boys to compete at the Quadrangular Athletics Carnival being held this Friday afternoon – good luck to all boys participating in this event.
On Friday afternoon all boys in Year 9 will be informed about the Year 10 Activity Program for 2019. Boys need to select one of the following three activities offered at Christ Church; Army Cadets, Surf Life Saving Cadets or Environment and Community (ENCOMM) Cadets. These activities are conducted on Friday afternoons throughout the year and provide an opportunity to develop leadership and outdoor skills, experience personal challenge and serve the community. I encourage parents of Year 9 boys to discuss these options carefully with their son over the weekend as the choice of activity will influence their personal development. These activities can also provide leadership positions for boys who choose to continue their involvement in Years 11 and 12.
