At present we are experiencing low COVID-19 numbers in our Senior School, which is pleasing after the bubble we experienced when the masks were removed. This is great for the stability of the learning environment, but there is concern for a second spike in numbers and even repeated infections of COVID-19. This leads to another concern in the coming months, and that is the occurrence of flu. As parents can I please ask you to encourage your son/s to take responsibility for personal hygiene by washing hands regularly, using the sanitiser that is still being provided by the School and being thoughtful about physical contact during the school day. It may also be a worth considering immunisation. If flu-like symptoms occur in your son/s please keep them home and test for COVID as a precaution.
The CCGS Surfing Team enjoyed success last Friday at the PSA Surfing Competition held at Scarborough beach. On a chilly morning where there were some good waves the senior and junior short board teams came second, but this was in contrast to the two body boarding divisions that won their respective competitions. In a tight contest the CCGS Surfing team came out on top with a great win over Hale and the trophy was returned to the reception cabinet on Tuesday morning.
Our Chess Team will head to the competition boards this week in the Four Schools Competition, which is the preliminary competition to the PSA Chess Competition in Week 6 of next term. The team is looking good, and their preparation has been thorough. The expectations are high with such a long run as the PSA champions, and we know these boys are keen to deliver another PSA trophy for 2022.
I had the privilege to hear from Mike Dyson, a friend of the school, Senior Facilitator of our Year 9 OQD program and founder of the Good Blokes Co, this week. Mike explored the ‘sense of identity’ with the Years 10 and 11 boys and the ongoing development of positive masculinity in the boys at Christ Church. He encouraged the boys across the two cohorts to continue the improvement of the School’s culture through living the School’s values daily. He acknowledged the celebration of diversity in our School community and the strength in being respectful, as well as the importance of accountability for both the individual and boys when they are in groups.
