Last Friday afternoon Sandover Dining Hall was a buzz with the ‘tinkle of bells’ and the hushed sound of concentrating boys, and staff, as the chess clubs from four PSA schools competed in the Four Schools Chess Competition. In what is a warm-up fixture to the PSA Chess Championships the CCGS Chess Team were unstoppable as they made light-work the opposition teams. Given the youthfulness of the team, only comprised of Years 7 to 10 students, the win was even more meritorious. We are looking good to overcome Aquinas at the PSA Championships this year and keep the PSA trophy in the CCGS cabinet for a 13th consecutive year.
Our jazz ensembles delivered a wonderful performance at The Ellington Jazz Club on Tuesday evening. Led by Mr Paul Millard, 50 of our jazz students embraced the venue’s mood and entertained a captivated full house. After limited attendance last year it was terrific to return to this iconic venue again and fill the house to the amazing sound of Christ Church jazz.
Our Student Wellbeing Committee are driving some activities recently that are aimed at getting staff and/or students involved. The Push-Up Challenge 2022 officially runs from 1 to 24 June (inclusive) and involves challenging participants to complete 3,319 push-ups over 24 days. This number represents the number of lives lost in Australia to suicide in 2020. This initiative aims to promote physical activity, fosters connection, facilitates an opportunity to discuss mental health, promotes positive team spirit and engagement, and supports healthy competition for students and staff wanting to get involved.
This weekend’s sporting fixture against Trinity marks the start of the second round of competition against other PSA schools. Team sports are a feature of the winter season, and it is always heartening to witness the level of improvement that is made by teams as they progress through the season. Good luck to all team this weekend as we continue our success across the winter codes and the hunt for more silverware. Looks like the umbrella will be necessary this weekend.
