The last week has continued to be busy with some significant events both to finish the term and also prepare for the term ahead.

The winter season sport has been launched with preliminary trainings for most boys across the senior school cohorts. In particular, the senior squads had come together now that the summer sport has concluded. There has been an enthusiasm and excitement amongst many senior boys with the anticipation of the start of the winter codes.

Last week was particularly busy for the Year 12 cohort. On Wednesday evening the Annual Principal’s Dinner was held in Sandover Dining Hall. This dinner provides a formal occasion, leading into the Ball, for the Year 12 Cohort to meet in House groups, hear from a significant old boy, and engage with Council, Executive and key pastoral staff in a sit-down dinner situation. The Old Boy speaker invariably bring some insights for the Year 12 boys about the immediate future and life beyond CCGS. David Jewkes (1999) provided the boys with a number of insights. He reflected on the excellent academic program that he experienced whilst a student at Christ Church, that enabled him to launch a successful career but also made the point about the importance of the ‘softer skills’ he has learnt around communication, listening, and building quality relationships, and how that had provided real benefits to him both in this professional and personal life.

For the year 12 boys the week concluded with the Ball at Optus Stadium, a new venue for the Christ Church Ball, with a different feel to the previous venue, The Hyatt. The facilities and services were first class and more importantly the respectful behaviour show by the Year 12’s and their partners to stadium staff and School staff was exceptional.

The weekend finished with the Year 8 Parents’ Association Sundowner which provided an opportunity for the Director of Kooringal Ryan Myles to provide insights to the upcoming Year 8 Cape to Cave Outdoor program with St Hilda’s. This program enters its third year, albeit last year it was a hybrid program because of COVID. This year we return to the southwest and the stunning Boranup Forest and there is much excitement about this program amongst the Year 8 cohorts of the respective schools.
