On Saturday, our Christ Church Rowers will hit the water in the Annual Head of the River Regatta. The day starts with the Year 9 Quads rowing over 1000 metres. The quads are followed by the Year 10 Quad and Eights over 1500 metres and then finally the Senior Eights racing over a gruelling 2000 metres. The First VIII have been impressive in the last couple of regattas so the Head of the River race will definitely be one to watch closely. We wish all crews the best of luck on Saturday as their hard work, dedication and long hours hopefully give them the opportunity to have their best race of the season.
With one last round of summer fixtures to be held this weekend against Hale, we have seen many students out on the oval preparing for the winter season that commences next term. There has been an enthusiasm and excitement amongst many senior students with the anticipation of the start of the winter codes.
I have been encouraged by the number of students supporting ‘Ride to School Week’. This is an important initiative championed by our Health and Wellbeing Student Committee, with the support of Director of Health and Wellbeing Brad Gardner, and I hope it continues to create awareness around the importance of incorporating exercise into everyday life. The competition is strong amongst the Houses and the respective Tutors. It will be interesting to see who gets the ‘Golden Helmet’ in Assembly next week.
There are a number of school tours heading off around the world over the next week and throughout the holidays. It is great that these amazing co-curricular opportunities are once again available for our students and special thanks to the tour coordinators and staff involved. Safe travels to all and we look forward to hearing about these experiences on their return.
With the end of term fast approaching, a number of parents have enquired about early departures for a range of reasons. Whilst the School encourages students to be in classes up until the last period of the term, there are occasionally circumstances where this is not possible. In the case of boarders, the residential staff typically manage early departures due to flight arrangements. For day students, the process is for parents is to contact their son/s Head of House to discuss the early departure and ensure that the documentation is completed by their sons/s regarding the work to be completed for missed classes. For students in Years 10 to 12, please take particular note of the School’s Assessment policy and the implications for missed assessments.
