On Monday night, it was inspiring to see how effective the goal-setting process was for both students and parents. To maintain consistency across the Senior School, this process is integrated into each student’s NEXUS page, allowing both students and tutors to regularly check progress and review actions. The role of the Tutor is essential in a student’s journey toward becoming a young man at Christ Church. A Tutor serves many purposes: they are the main point of contact for parents, the first point of contact for students every morning, and the first person teachers reach out to regarding a student’s academic or pastoral performance – whether positive or negative. Our Tutors play a significant role in the success of our students, and it’s this commitment that continues to set our students apart.
Next Tuesday, Paul Litherland will present to the Year 7 and 8 cohorts on the topic of Cyber safety, providing valuable insights on how students can protect themselves in today’s digital world. The Wynne Centre for Health and Wellbeing invites parents and friends of the Christ Church community to join us on Wednesday 19 February, for a presentation by Paul. He will share his expert recommendations and advice on addressing the latest cyber safety concerns. For more details and to register your attendance, please refer to the notice in the Year Group notices.
Service learning is an integral part of the Christ Church education and offers students meaningful opportunities to contribute beyond their own community. Christ Church has enjoyed a strong partnership with Cambodia Children’s Fund for many years, and this December, our Year 11 students will have the chance to visit Phnom Penh. Over nine days, students will work at the school, engage with local communities, explore the Mekong River, visit the Killing Fields, and participate in various community service activities. Application forms for the limited places will be sent to Year 11 students today and found here. For any queries, please contact Christy Dangerfield at cdangerfield@ccgs.wa.edu.au or call 9442 1789.
As the school year settles into its regular routines, there are some important reminders for parents:
The first point relates to the CCGS student card, which is the only way your son can borrow library books, purchase items from the Canteen and Bookroom, and travel on public transport. Its use is essential for maintaining a cash-free environment at the School, and without it, a student’s access to these key services is limited. If your son has lost his student card, he must order a new one via the Student tab in NEXUS (located in the left-hand margin, select ‘Smart Rider Order Form’). Please note, Canteen purchases cannot be made without the student card or a canteen voucher, which is available from Main Reception.
Secondly, to help prevent your son from losing valuable personal items, please ensure all clothing and sports equipment is clearly labelled. Using a standard black ‘Artline 70’ marker to write your son’s initials and surname on the garment tags or hems of clothing will significantly increase the likelihood of items being returned.
Lastly, the School recommends students wear a CCGS school hat or cap when outdoors during the school day, especially at lunchtime and during afternoon sporting sessions. Sunscreen is also available at key locations around the School, including the PE office, Student Services Office (Refectory), Boarding Houses, and Health Centre.
