Preparing for Term 2

After a weather delay, the rowers finally took to the water yesterday with the 1st VIII delivering a commendable third-place finish. The team also secured equal second in the C.A. Hamer Cup, highlighting the depth and consistency of performance across the entire squad throughout the season. Congratulations to all staff, coaches and students for their dedication throughout the season. This result caps off a remarkable summer of sport, with top-three finishes across all summer codes – an outstanding achievement, and one that sets the school apart as the only one to accomplish this feat this season. The end of term brings a time for reflection on all that has happened. The 40-degree day memories are fading, and the cooler nights are being appreciated. The academic, cultural and sporting successes have been significant, and the efforts of students and staff are to be acknowledged and applauded.

The preparations for Term 2 are well underway, with winter codes hitting the training fields this week for all years. Week 1 sees a special ANZAC Day gala fixture against Scotch, with all teams (Senior and Junior) playing on Friday 24 April, and we are looking to be competitive across the codes. Please check your son’s sports schedule closely via the School Parent app in Week 1 for fixture details. A reminder that training starts on day 1 of Term 2.

Following the theme of ‘preparation’, it is important that winter uniforms are checked to ensure that they fit, and all the elements of the formal uniform are ready for day one, including a belt and the correct socks. Some of the younger students may need some assistance in tying their tie. Please note the uniform shop is open on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 April to make sure you are ready to go on day one. Please check the app for opening hours.

Individual portrait photos for Years 7 to 12, along with the Year 12 Cohort Photo, will be taken on Thursday 23 April. Your support in ensuring your son is well presented, with polished shoes, wearing his blazer, along with a haircut that meets our presentation standards, is greatly appreciated. You will have received information to allow you to place an online order for the individual photos.

During the holiday period, student devices will not be actively monitored by senior staff. However, please be assured that the school’s internet filtering systems will remain in place to help maintain a safe online environment.

Please note that Term 2 starts on Monday 20 April at 8.25am.

Years 7 to 9 Sports Fixtures – Friday 24 April

On Friday 24 April (Week 1, Term 2), all CCGS Senior School (Years 7 to 12) sports teams will compete against Scotch, due to Anzac Day falling on the Saturday. All students in Years 7 to 9 will have a sports fixture commencing at 12.45pm and will miss Period 4 classes. Fixtures are expected to conclude at approximately 2.00pm (depending on the sport). Following their fixture, students will be dismissed and may either be collected directly from the venue or return to school for dismissal at approximately 2.30pm.

Please make the necessary arrangements for your son’s travel home. Further details for specific fixtures will be available via Nexus.

Mike Dyson – Better Conversations with Young Men

The Centre for Health and Wellbeing invites parents to a practical session with Mike Dyson, focusing on effective ways to communicate with boys as they transition into young adulthood. Grounded in the On Queenslea Drive program, the workshop will share real-world strategies to support independence, responsibility, respect and leadership.

Mike Dyson, founder of Good Blokes Co and a key contributor to the OQD program, brings extensive experience working with boys, men, parents and educators.

Year 7 Study Smarter Not Harder

Each Year 7 student and one parent/guardian only are invited to attend an afternoon provided by Christ Church teachers, aimed at improving the organisation, note-taking, summarising and revision skills of our Year 7 students.

The afternoon is in an interactive workshop format. It is expected that boys and their parent/guardian will sit together to complete the activities. Boys will be provided with all the relevant materials and only need to bring a water bottle with them. They should wear casual clothes.

Only one adult is able to attend with each Year 7 student, and no other family members can attend. This event is repeated over two afternoons, so all Year 7 students may attend. You will have the option to book for either Sunday 3 May or Sunday 17 May from 1.00pm to 3.30pm. Year 7 boarders will attend with their Year Group Coordinator if parent/guardian attendance is not possible.

Christ Church Grammar School is once again supporting Australian Red Cross’ annual Bindaring Clothing Sale. Red Cross are seeking donations of clean, good-quality clothes for men, women and children. They are also accepting accessories such as shoes, bags, belts, scarves and jewellery in good condition. The Bindaring Clothing Sale will be held at Claremont Showgrounds on Saturday 16 May. On Friday 24 April (Week 1, Term 2), all CCGS Senior School (Years 7 to 12) sports teams will compete against Scotch, due to Anzac Day falling on the Saturday. All students in Years 7 to 9 will have a sports fixture commencing at 12.45pm and will miss Period 4 classes. Fixtures are expected to conclude at approximately 2.00pm (depending on the sport). Following their fixture, students will be dismissed and may either be collected directly from the venue or return to school for dismissal at approximately 2.30pm.

The Centre for Health and Wellbeing invites parents to a practical session with Mike Dyson, focusing on effective ways to communicate with boys as they transition into young adulthood. Grounded in the On Queenslea Drive program, the workshop will share real-world strategies to support independence, responsibility, respect and leadership.

Mike Dyson, founder of Good Blokes Co and a key contributor to the OQD program, brings extensive experience working with boys, men, parents and educators.

Late arrival to School on a day of assessment

Students who arrive late to school due to medical appointments and subsequently sit an assessment will need to have either a medical certificate or a note from their attending physician to justify the late attendance to avoid being awarded a zero.

Years 10 to 12 Sports Fixtures – Friday 24 April

On Friday 24 April (Week 1, Term 2), all CCGS Senior School (Years 7 to 12) sports teams will compete against Scotch, due to Anzac Day falling on the Saturday. All students in Years 10 to 12 will have a sports fixture commencing at 2.45pm. Fixtures are expected to conclude at approximately 4.00pm (depending on the sport). There will be no normal Friday activities (for example, cadets) on this day. Following their fixture, students will be dismissed and may either be collected directly from the venue or return to school for dismissal at approximately 4.30pm.

Please make the necessary arrangements for your son’s travel home. Further details for specific fixtures will be available via Nexus.

The Centre for Health and Wellbeing invites parents to a practical session with Mike Dyson, focusing on effective ways to communicate with boys as they transition into young adulthood. Grounded in the On Queenslea Drive program, the workshop will share real-world strategies to support independence, responsibility, respect and leadership.

Mike Dyson, founder of Good Blokes Co and a key contributor to the OQD program, brings extensive experience working with boys, men, parents and educators.

ATARget Master Classes – Term 2

These small group sessions, focusing on key ATAR subjects, give students quality academic support that will reinforce and consolidate skills and processes learnt in class. Classes are held on Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings during the term, commencing on Saturday 25 April. Students can enrol at any time during the term and simply pay pro rata.

Red Cross Bindaring Clothing Sale – seeking clothes and accessories donations

Christ Church Grammar School is once again supporting Australian Red Cross’ annual Bindaring Clothing Sale. Red Cross are seeking donations of clean, good-quality clothes for men, women and children. They are also accepting accessories such as shoes, bags, belts, scarves and jewellery in good condition. The Bindaring Clothing Sale will be held at Claremont Showgrounds on Saturday 16 May. All funds raised support Australian Red Cross local services in our WA community. Please see details below if you would like to support this fantastic cause.

Our next monthly Saturday Family Service is Saturday 2 May at 5.00pm. The service is held at Christ Church Claremont (the church on the corner of Stirling Highway and Queenslea Drive) for CCGS families and the general public. This is a service designed for and enjoyed by children and youth, but anyone of any age is welcome. It is a simple and interactive 45-minute service of Holy Communion. Families are welcome to stay afterwards for tasty treats in the hall. Service dates for the remainder of the year are:

Late arrival to School on a day of assessment

MMA April Exam Preparation Program – Tuesday 7 April to Friday 10 April

Master Mind Australia will be delivering a comprehensive exam preparation program for Year 12 ATAR students on the Christ Church Grammar School campus in the first week of the April Holidays. These classes offer students a structured revision and consolidation program which includes an explanation of how the content that they have studied in semester one is assessed in formal examinations. Classes are kept small so that students can liaise with teachers one-on-one to address any problems they are experiencing with their subject content. More details are available on the MMA website.

UCAT Registration is Open

Students considering a career in medicine or dentistry should be aware that registrations for the UCAT ANZ (University Clinical Aptitude Test) are now open. The UCAT is a compulsory admissions test required for entry into most undergraduate medical and dental programs in Australia. Click here to go to the registration page.

Important Academic Dates 2026

Year 12 is a fast and frenetic year – it is very helpful if parents, as well as boys, are aware of key dates. The dates can be found here.

Please take particular note that if your son is studying a subject with a practical exam, he must be available during the Term 3 holidays for this exam. SCSA issues these exam times and will not make alternative arrangements where the times are deemed inconvenient by parents. They also do not accede to parents’ requests for particular dates and times.

In short – please do not make any plans to travel interstate or overseas with your son during the Term 3 holidays.
