Our Indigenous scholars will be playing a significant leadership role over the next week in celebration of NAIDOC. Beginning on Saturday, our students will attend the 2019 Madalah Ball at Crown to present over 400 guests with a tie of their own design. On Monday, these students will play the Staff in a ‘friendly’ basketball match at lunchtime, and I encourage all students to come along to support. The week will conclude with our Indigenous scholars guiding Prep School students through the Our Voice art exhibition and then teaching the younger students Didgeridoo playing and dances. I thank our Indigenous scholars for their leadership in this important celebration.

All our boys are constantly presented with opportunities to develop important leadership skills and at times given the chance to apply for various formal positions. Many of our Year 11 cohort are currently completing applications for the positions of House and School Prefects. In 2020, all appointed School Prefects will be assigned particular leadership portfolios and work alongside assigned staff mentors undertaking duties, implementing new initiatives and growing as young leaders. I wish all Year 11 applicants well as they participate in this process.

Finally, I would like to remind you of our new initiative, ‘Urban Boarding’, which includes:

Day boarding – this provides students with the opportunity to join the boarding community during the afternoon and evening. The students enjoy afternoon tea, socialising, normal school activities (sport and training etc), have a healthy and delicious dinner and attend supervised study sessions in the evening. Day boarders need to be collected by 8.30pm.

Short term boarding – there may be occasions where it becomes difficult for parents and guardians to supervise their sons. Business commitments, family matters and other hurdles in our busy world can leave some parents struggling to be at home and arrange transport for their boys. Subject to availability of space and for limited periods of time, we can offer secure and safe care and supervision for boys on a temporary basis.

On Friday 9 August we are hosting a Boarding Open Day. This day is designed to give all parents an insight into boarding and incorporates a tour of the boarding house and a social event with current boarding parents. All families are invited to attend, please click here to register for the event.
