Winning the PSA Head of the River is an extraordinary accomplishment for all of those involved, and Saturday saw a very exciting race unfold. The conditions at Champion Lakes were near perfect, and as there was not one dominant team going into the race it was always going to be close. Fortunately the Christ Church crew had a very strong start and lead all the way to the finish line, with Hale very close behind for most of the way. For every regatta, there is an enormous amount of planning and training and then there is the team selection that occurs and all of this happened in just a few days in the lead up to Saturday as we decided to bring the date of the Head of the River forward due to the threat of COVID-19. Considering the latest round of restrictions this was the right decision for all of the PSA schools and their crews. I wish to congratulate everyone involved, coaches, students, parents and supporters. If you haven’t seen the First VIII race, it is incredibly exciting and can viewed here.

Winning the PSA Swimming for the 6th consecutive year on Tuesday night resulted in a phenomenal outcome for all involved. Swimming has always been a big part of Christ Church with many of our students swimming all year round. Congratulations to all of our swimmers and coaches and to the boys who broke records on the night. Here is a picture of the Captain of Swimming, Tom Michael with the cup.

This morning we delivered our Birthday Assembly to students in its new video format. Professor Paul Johnson, Chair of Council spoke about the positives that have resulted from the pandemic, the speed of innovation, the changes to communicating and our ability to adjust and keep moving forward. We also included a pre-recording of the Service of Rededication and the lighting of the Torch of Learning conducted by Reverend Nick with four of our prefects.

To assist parents with notifying the School if their son tests positive for COVID-19 or is a close contact, we have created a dedicated email address. All emails will go directly to me, Steve Males and Mark Morrissy. With the borders now open, we anticipate that numbers may increase. Please contact the School on covid@ccgs.wa.edu.au so that we can continue our focus on the health and safety of our entire community.

I hope you enjoy the mid-term break, it always comes around at the right time for our boarders to connect with family and friends, the students to rest and reflect and come back energised ready to give their best for the remainder of the term.
