  • Year 4s move into new Preparatory School
  • The Midnite Feast
  • Annual Cadet Parade
  • Year 12 cohort

Welcome back, I hope everyone had a relaxing break and are ready for the challenges ahead in what is always a very busy school term.

Over the weekend I attended the Anglican Church Synod, which is an annual gathering attended by our chaplain and members of staff and School Council. Time was spent reviewing the mission of the Church, changes to legislation and the gathering provided an opportunity for the diocese to take counsel together.

This week has been exciting as our Year 4 boys returned from holidays and moved into the new Preparatory School after the demolition of G Block during the holidays. Although we can see significant progress, the entire building is not finished and with a lot of work still underway we are limiting the number of staff and students into the building and maintaining one single point of entry and exit. The official opening will be in the first week of school in 2019.

Tonight is The Midnite Feast, where we acknowledge the outstanding achievements of young artists and launch the 2019 MYTC season. We will also see performances from past productions Big Fish and Masquerade, and future performances Peter Pan and Into the Woods. If you haven’t bought tickets for either of these productions I highly recommend you do here. All performances are very special and highlight the amazing talent of our boys. I want to extend my congratulations to Gregory Jones, Director of Drama and the entire team who ensure wonderful costumes, lighting and sound at every performance. Tickets for the Feast can be purchased here.

On Friday afternoon we have the annual Cadet Parade which is followed by a dinner in Sandover Dining Hall. This year has been an outstanding one for the cadets who took out the Drill and Rogaining competitions and an equal first for the Senior First Aid competition at Bindoon on Saturday 29 September – read more on the story here.

This is a significant term for our Year 12 cohort, and the weeks ahead are very exciting as it sees the conclusion of the School experience for them. Plans for the Valedictory events for Tuesday 23 October are nearing completion and although this cycle happens every year, it does remind us of what we are hoping to achieve through the Christ Church experience. They are a wonderful group of boys and I wish them well over the next few months as they take their exams and/or navigate their way into the workforce.
