Last week, our Year 7 students spent time settling into Senior School with a range of structured activities designed to foster participation, connection and a sense of belonging among peers. Now, as Week 2 begins and the students truly embark on their Senior School journey, and they look to be settling in well, we wish them every success.
We also had the pleasure of hosting our oldest Old Boys for a special lunch at the Claremont Yacht Club. These gatherings, held several times each year, acknowledge the bond our alumni share with the School and each another. It is always a privilege to hear their stories, many as former boarders whose connection to Christ Church remains strong and deeply felt.
Over the weekend, the annual OBA Summer Sport Round saw our Firsts teams take on their Old Boy counterparts. The Old Boys triumphed in 3 of the 5 fixtures, with our Firsts securing wins in Basketball and Water Polo, the latter decided by an exciting penalty shootout. The day was a wonderful celebration of community spirit, featuring current and former Olympians as well as national and international athletes. Beyond the competitive spirit, the event offers a valuable opportunity for our student athletes to connect with and learn from those who once stood in their shoes. Term 1 promises more highlights, including the Valentine’s Swim Meet with Methodist Ladies’ College, the PSA Interschool Swimming Carnival and, of course, the Head of the River.
At our Senior School assembly this morning, we had a skin care expert speak to our students on the dangers of the sun and the long-term damage. We will continue these conversations with the boys as we now require them to wear hats during their PE and sports activities.
This week also marks the first On Queenslea Drive (OQD) session for 2026, now in its 9th year. This rites-of-passage program is a cornerstone of a Christ Church education, and it is always inspiring to witness the growth and self-awareness it develops in our students.
Last week, we received the tragic news of the passing of the Clune family. At times like these, we are reminded of the strength and compassion of the Christ Church community. Each of us plays a part in sustaining this network of care, supporting one another through difficult moments. I would like to thank those who have reached out to the community with kindness and support as we continue to process this tragedy.
