Our Year 6 cohort recently took an educational tour of the Nation’s Capital – Canberra. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage, and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government is contributing funding of $510 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the School upon completion of the excursion.

Athletics Carnivals are always one of the highlights of the school year in the Preparatory School, and this year has been no different. On Tuesday, some of our youngest boys ran and jumped through the Pre-Primary to Year 2 Athletics Carnival. The students participated in their events with enthusiasm and sportsmanship. With the amazing weather, it was a memorable day for all in attendance.

This week, we celebrate Gifted Awareness Week to recognise and support the unique strengths, interests, and potential of gifted learners. It’s an opportunity to highlight the importance of providing appropriate challenges to help students thrive. At Christ Church, we aim to nurture talent in all its forms, encouraging every boy to grow, explore, and achieve his personal best.

Last Friday night, students from Year 5 participated in the IPSHA Performing Arts Festival at St Hilda’s. With the support of Mr Dawson and Mrs Yapp, the group performed a piece called ‘Street Beats’ in front of a large crowd to showcase the hard work they have channelled into their early morning and after-school rehearsals. Congratulations to all students who participated in this wonderful opportunity.

Our Preparatory School library has been abuzz with the 2025 Book Fair taking place. All classes have been accessing the library to witness first-hand the plethora of books available. Reading helps students develop imagination, build vocabulary, and strengthen their ability to focus. Just 10 to 15 minutes of reading a day can significantly improve comprehension and confidence across all subjects. Across the Preparatory School, we nurture a love of books to support not only learning but also a lifelong habit of curiosity and growth.
