Christ Church will be participating in the world-renowned ICAS assessments this year. ICAS is developed by UNSW Global, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of New South Wales, with over 35 years of experience in educational assessments. ICAS is designed to target students’ higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Writing, Mathematics, Science, Spelling and Digital Technologies. The assessments are suitable for students wishing to extend themselves academically and take up the personal challenge of competing in an international assessment. Your son will be presented with a range of questions, allowing them to apply their learning without the need for prior study or revision. If you are interested in registering your son for the 2024 ICAS assessments, please click here. Please note that for 2024, all ICAS assessments will commence at 7.50am in the Year 5 classrooms of the Preparatory School.

Gifted Awareness Week, celebrated in May each year, aims to raise awareness of the identification, support and learning needs of gifted children and to celebrate the dedication of individuals and education bodies who are making a positive difference in the lives of gifted children and their families. In the Preparatory School, Mrs Siegmann took over the student bulletin with daily challenges, shared reading activities, informative videos and an array of lunchtime activities. The Centre for Excellence classrooms were abuzz with many boys coming in for the lunchtime activities, which included general knowledge quizzes, optical illusion challenges, spelling bees, engineering paper towers and maths challenges. Well done to all boys who participated in these rewarding activities.

Each year level hosts Open Classrooms throughout the year. This is an opportunity for parents to engage with their sons and gain insights into the learnings taking place in each classroom. Boys relish the opportunity to show their parents examples of work completed, walk them through specific projects or even test their parent’s knowledge after providing explicit instructions on content being covered in class. Tomorrow, Year 3 and 4 host their Open Classrooms and we hope all parents attending enjoy the opportunity to share in their son’s learning.

Congratulations to this week’s Building Good Men Award winners.
