Science provides a factual way of answering interesting and important questions about the biological, physical and technological world in which we inhabit. Primary Science programs are designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop scientific knowledge, form an understanding of science’s contribution to our culture and society, and its application to our everyday lives. Through the Primary Science curriculum, students can experience the joy of scientific discovery and nurture their natural curiosity about the world around them. In doing so, they develop critical and creative thinking skills and challenge themselves to identify questions and draw evidence-based conclusions using scientific methods.
The theme for National Science Week in 2024 is ‘Species Survival – More than Just Sustainability’. The theme aims to highlight the importance of science and innovation in ensuring the survival and thriving of different species in an ever-changing world.
Students have had the opportunity to engage in a number of activities held in the library throughout the week including a Biodiversity Hunt, Science Quizzes, Magnifying Nature activities and Caterpillar Craft. All activities are advertised in the student bulletin.
Next week we will celebrate Book Week, with the theme for 2024 being ‘Reading is Magic’. Boys will have the opportunity to engage with literature in the library, enjoy author talks, and explore magic through various lunchtime activities. The week culminates in our Book Week Assembly on Friday 23 August, where boys are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book characters, the House Read Challenge will be announced, and the Preparatory Staff will perform for the students.
The Children’s Book Council of Australia 2024 Book of the Year Shortlist can be found here.
I wish all families a restful mid-term break and commend the boys on their efforts so far in Term 3.
