  • Transition to Senior School
  • Awards Assembly tomorrow

As our Year 6 students prepare for their transition to the Senior School, we are committed to providing a supportive and structured approach to help ease this important step in their educational journey. Kate Atkinson, one of our School Psychologists spoke to Year 6 parents about the transition from the Preparatory School to the Senior School. She provided information and advice and outlined that transitioning to Year 7 can be an exciting yet challenging time for students and explained how the School works alongside parents and teachers, to ensure each boy feels ready, confident, and equipped to make a successful transition.

Throughout the year, our team integrates transition support into the curriculum, helping students build the academic, social, and emotional skills they will need for a successful start in the Senior School. These skills include fostering independence, developing study habits, and nurturing resilience. Our teachers plan activities to encourage students to become more self-reliant and teach them to manage the tasks and responsibilities they will encounter in Year 7. Additionally, the Year 6 cohort engage in discussions with Senior School boys about the changes ahead.

To further aid their transition, we arrange visits to the Senior School, where the boys receive a firsthand experience of a Year 7 environment. This approach often includes meeting Year 7 teachers, exploring the new facilities, and participating in science lessons and visits to the Academic Resource Centre (ARC). We also hold workshops and Q&A sessions for both students and parents, allowing them to ask questions and address any concerns. Our goal is to make the move to Year 7 as seamless as possible, empowering each student to thrive from their very first day.

The Preparatory School Awards Assembly takes place this Friday where boys will be recognised for their exceptional achievements across a range of academic competitions. Students will be recognised from the following academic competitions: ICAS English, Mathematics, Science, Digital Technologies, Writing and Spelling, The Maths Olympiad, The Kangarou sans Frontier Mathematics Competition, The Australian Mathematics Competition, the Computational and Algorithmic Thinking Competition, the Maths Explorer and the Maths Challenge. In all, 101 boys will be recognised for distinctions, high distinctions and medals. We are very proud of the achievements of these boys, and we look forward to acknowledging their efforts on Friday. Parents of all recipients are invited to attend this assembly.
