This week, Years 2, 3 and 4 will host their Open Classrooms. This is a terrific opportunity for boys to share with their parents a specific learning activity or an overall view of what learning has taken place in our classrooms. The Year 2 boys will be taking their parents down to the river for a nature scavenger hunt. Year 3 boys will demonstrate their digital technology skills to ‘up level’ their written work, as well as demonstrate their understanding of symbolism in World War 1 and Australia’s involvement at Gallipoli. The Year 4 boys will showcase their understanding of forces at work in the playground along with their video presentations of their scientific investigations into all things forces.

Tomorrow our Yahoo Choir perform at the Fremantle Eisteddfod at Victoria Hall in Fremantle. The boys will be singing two pieces, ‘The Lord is My Shepherd’ and ‘Haba Na Haba’. We wish all boys performing all the best for this wonderful musical event.

As a way of celebrating boy’s work within the Preparatory School, our daily student bulletin showcases a number of boys and their bookwork each week. This not only highlights the efforts that boys are placing into the presentation and standard of their work, but also allows other boys to see examples of each other’s work across the Phases of Learning.

Producing a master plan has been part of our strategic planning process since the School started in 1910. The master plan guides the development of property, particularly the physical space, to ensure it is aligned with the strategic plan, future enrolments and educational trends. The School has been seeking to consolidate its sports playing fields in one location and is currently in conversations with the State government related to purchasing land near our existing St John’s Wood playing fields. If this transaction goes ahead, the grounds at Mt Claremont will be surplus and the School would consider its options for the grounds. Please go here for information about the proposed St John’s Wood phase 2.

Over the years neuroscience has continued to provide researchers with more information about the development of the male brain. This week our SchoolTV topic of ‘Raising Boys’, provides a range of interviews with leading specialists.

Congratulations to the following Building Good Men recipients for this week.
