This week all the boys in the Preparatory School have been taking part in NAIDOC Week. Starting Monday morning in the Chapel, Olman Walley involved the gathering in Welcome to Country, a part of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures for thousands of years. Throughout the week classes have been involved in the NAIDOC Poster competition, Indigenous Art Sand Mural, and classroom workshops with Olman and Reeketa Walley.
During the past week the Year 3 and 4 boys completed their Speakers’ Challenge finals so as to determine who would be representing Christ Church at Wesley College for the IPSHA Speakers’ Challenge. The standard of speeches delivered was exceptional with a wide range of topics that entertained and informed the audience. It is very challenging to stand in front of a large audience and all boys are to be commended on their efforts. Congratulations goes to Quinn Bewsher (3SL) and Edward Keogh (4SO) for being selected to represent Christ Church and we wish these boys all the best.
A final reminder to parents and guardians of boys from Years 2 to 6 that the ICAS testing registration closes on 14 August. If you require further information regarding ICAS testing for 2019 and would like it, please contact Jay Pyefinch or the Preparatory School Reception.
At Christ Church, we aim to balance celebration of all that our boys do with teaching and learning time. Every Friday all of our boys from Pre-Primary to Year 6 come together for a weekly assembly. Having boys between the ages of 5 to 12 sit for over an hour can be a tough ask for some of our young boys. This term we have trialled refreshing the way in which we acknowledge our Building Good Men (BGM) recipients and the overall structure of assemblies. In Term 3 we will include a list of our BGM recipients and the accompanying citations (citations will no longer be read out in assembly) in CCGS World for the entire Christ Church community. This new format ensures we continue to celebrate our boys’ achievements and enhance the overall teaching and learning opportunities in the Preparatory School.
I would like to invite parents to join me for the Term 3 Parent Forum. Each term the Parent Forum provides families with an update about specific focus areas with the opportunity to ask questions about the Preparatory School. It will provide parents with an update about the Preparatory School Program and upcoming initiatives. The forum will take place on Tuesday 20 August commencing at 8.30am in the Preparatory School Staff Room. If you are interested in attending, please email Prep_Studies_Office@ccgs.wa.edu.au or contact 9442 1666 to indicate your attendance.
Enjoy the week!
