Recently boys from Years 3 to 6 took part in a Vertical House Group (VHG) activity with a focus on the Cambodian Children’s Fund (CCF). Founded in 2004, CCF has provided many wonderful opportunities of support and resourcing to vulnerable children in Cambodia. All families will receive more information about the upcoming ‘Lapathon’ which is the major Preparatory School fundraiser for 2019.
This week our boys in the ELC have been celebrating Science Week with each class from Pre-Kindergarten to Pre-Primary involved in a broad range of scientific experiments, investigations and inquiries. Highlights have included: edible science in the form of making honeycomb, fizzing and ‘potion’ making experiments, magnet painting, creating shadow boxes, exploring forces and motion by making balloon hover crafts, planting and growing, and investigating floating and sinking.
On Tuesday 13 August Quinn Bewsher (3SL) and Edward Keogh (4SO) represented Christ Church at the IPSHA Years 3 and 4 Speakers’ Challenge hosted by Wesley College. Both boys spoke excellently on their respective topics, engaging their audience with content, tone and eye contact. We were very proud that both boys made it to the final where they had to present their speeches again in front of a large audience in the Goatcher Auditorium. Once again, both boys made a wonderful impression on the audience and judges with Quinn awarded a bronze medal for his speech titled Fishing and Edward awarded the gold medal for his speech titled The Turkey Effect. Congratulations to both boys for their efforts and to all boys in Years 3 and 4 for producing such a high standard of speeches.
I would like to congratulate all the boys who have participated in the Winter Sport program. Each week the boys train and prepare for their Thursday fixture or sport experience. In what has been a rewarding period of the year, I pass on my thanks to all the coaches, volunteers and parents who dedicate their time in ensuring the boys are provided with such incredible experiences.
A reminder that parents are invited to join me for the Term 3 Parent Forum next week. The forum will provide parents with an update about the Preparatory School program and upcoming initiatives. It takes place on Tuesday 20 August commencing at 8.30am in the Preparatory School Staff Room. If you are interested in attending, please email scraig@ccgs.wa.edu.au or contact 9442 1666 to RSVP your attendance.
