Year 6 Father/Friend and Son Breakfast
In preparation for Father’s Day this weekend our Year 6 cohort hosted a breakfast in Sandover Dining Hall this morning. The occasion was abuzz with excitement and collegiality meshed in with a delicious breakfast. It was lovely to see both the boys and dads connect for a short period of time to pause and reflect prior to Father’s Day.
Week of the Arts
The Preparatory School will be celebrating the Arts in Week 10 of Term 3. Throughout the week students will have the opportunity to perform in year level class concerts held in the Chapel, view the Year 5/6 production Rock Bottom and participate in the annual House Shout competition. The 2020 theme for the House Shout is Colours, where all houses will perform a song with a colour in the title, artist name or lyrics. Parents are welcome to attend the class concerts and House Shout performance. More information on this is available under the year group notices on CCGS World.
Open Night/Art Exhibition and Grandparents’ Day
A reminder to all our families that the annual Open Night and Art Exhibition takes place next Thursday 10 September from 3.00pm to 6.00pm and is followed by Grandparents’ Day on Friday 11 September from 8.30am to 11.00am.
Athletics
Many of our boys across Years 3 to 6 have been busy competing in trials in preparation for the JPSSA Athletics Carnival to be held at the State Athletics Centre on Thursday 10 September. Selected boys participated in a qualification process at St John’s Wood playing fields to finalise our Preparatory School Track Team. It was terrific to see so many boys take part in team games representing their houses during lunch throughout the week.
Student Voice
This week I would like to share two reflections written by Max.Z and Henry.S from Class 4GW:
“During our Talk for Writing sessions, we have enjoyed looking at specific phrases and how they can up-level our writing. Noun phrases, prepositional phrases and expanded noun phrases are just to name a few. We learnt just how important they are when creating the orientation of a historical narrative and describing the setting. Next week we will begin our final writing task and I am excited to apply all that I have learnt!” Max Zhang
“In HASS we have been learning about what life was like aboard the ships of the First Fleet. In one of our lessons we mapped out the journey and discovered the interesting facts about the stops during the voyage. Did you know, the Charlotte fell so far behind at the beginning of the journey that it had to be towed by a navy escort! I have also found this information to be really helpful during our Talk for Writing lessons, as we are going to be creating our own 18th Century Historical Narrative soon.” Henry Stobie
Enjoy the week and happy Father’s Day!
