This morning the entire school came together to celebrate the School’s 108th birthday, the commissioning of Reverend Nicholas Russell and to acknowledge long serving staff members. There was a wonderful energy as we brought all of our students together for the first time this year, and it serves as an opportunity for the younger boys to see what is ahead of them and time for the older boys to reflect on their journey so far.

Every year we welcome world class presenters to the School, and they engage with boys and parents on their special subject. This week Paul Dillon, Director and founder of Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia (DARTA) was with us and spoke to the Years 8, 9 and 10 boys about alcohol and drug awareness. On the DARTA website there are several helpful fact sheets for students and parents covering a range of topics. Similarly, on the BGM blog this week you can find an article discussing risk taking.

Every year we host a number of sundowners for parents. The sundowners are courtesy of the Parents’ Association and always commence with an information session, followed by drinks and finger food. In Term 1 we host four sundowners and I encourage parents to attend and catch up with existing friends and also build new connections with parents in their son’s year. These events are a great way to learn more about your son’s educational journey and enjoy the school community.

We end this week with the mid-term break, a great time to recharge our batteries and enjoy time with family and friends. Wishing everyone a wonderful long weekend.
