Last weekend we held the first Principal’s Bike Ride on a stunning Perth Autumn morning with more than 60 cyclists participating. Our community is well aware that we encourage boys to either ‘walk a little way’ or ride bikes, if circumstances allow them, as a way of coming to school and reducing traffic congestion in the school precinct. The School has secured areas for bikes and in Perth we are blessed to have mild weather most of the year. Parents, please encourage bike riding to school to become more of a habit in the pursuit of developing independence, and better health and academic outcomes for the boys.

Over the break I will be attending the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA) conference in Tasmania where I will be presenting a paper on Strategic Planning. The conference is titled ‘Leading, Learning and Caring’ and is always a great opportunity to connect and explore new ideas and thinking around education.

We are committed to ensuring the safety of all community members in any way we can. This week we received a reminder from the Public Transport Authority about safety on and around train stations. If your son currently catches a train to school or is planning to, please take the time to speak to him about these useful safety tips.

Thank you to all for a wonderful first term. It has been an extraordinarily busy, but very successful phase for the School as reflected by the news section of our website. Over the holidays please take time to look at our BGM blog, share it with friends, and read some of the interesting articles on education and health and wellbeing. As we approach the holidays, we have three pertinent articles on the BGM Blog, What kids need these holidays, How to battle boredom in the school holidays and The benefits of Coding Club for your son.

Have a safe break and I look forward to seeing everyone back in Term 2.
