One day into the new term and I am delighted to see most boys observing the uniform requirements for the change of season.

The social highlight of the year for the Year 12 boys is the School Ball and I am really looking forward to welcoming the boys and their partners to the venue this Saturday night.

This term all Year 8 boys will ‘voyage’ on STS Leeuwin. This adventure for our Year 8s is a unique opportunity to learn about the nature of a square rigged sailing boat and the challenges faced by seafarers from days gone by. The voyages will be based out of Monkey Mia in the Shark Bay area, which is a World Heritage listed environment. I am looking forward to the reports by the boys as they return from this experience, knowing that many parents and staff would love to be sharing in this experience too. Later in the term, Year 9 boys will start their annual camping program based out of Kooringal where they will be challenged by nine days of orienteering, walking, canoeing and in some cases, the winter weather.

This Saturday we play Guildford at our new playing fields, St John’s Wood. It will be great for the boys and parents to experience the new grounds together. This ia a good time to reflect on the PSA Code of Behaviour in Sport which highlights that sport can play a role in promoting physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle, in learning to face challenges and strive against the odds, in developing qualities such as self discipline, perseverance, selflessness, obedience and in being a means of substantially building self-esteem. Good sportsmanship is an integral part of all that is best about sport. It includes a generous spirit, true respect for others and the game, graciousness, and a steadfast resistance to temptations such as attempting to gain an unfair advantage.

I look forward to seeing all boys accepting the responsibility that representing the School brings and playing hard but fair.

And finally, a reminder to all parents that parking in the bus bays along Queenslea Drive at school pickup and drop off times will result in a fine by Claremont Council due to the traffic congestion this causes.
