Over 315 mothers, significant female mentors and Year 9 boys filled the School Refectory last Thursday morning for our annual Year 9 Mother/Friend and Son Breakfast.

Hosted by the Parents’ Association, the morning commenced with a welcome by Principal Alan Jones, followed by an inspiring and motivating talk by old boy and Olympian Tommaso D’Orsogna (2007).

“Make the most of opportunities you are faced with. This may be opportunities at school or out of school – but each opportunity you take will teach you something about yourself and open new doors for you”, said Tommaso.

“Always be yourself – your path is unique to you, the decisions you make will be right because you made them. Don’t be afraid of failure as you learn more from failure than success – choose to learn from them and continue on your path.”

Throughout the morning Tommaso delivered a number of key messages to our Year 9 boys, reflecting on his own experiences as a former Christ Church student and his learnings since graduating, whilst attending mothers and sons shared special time together.

Community Groups Co-ordinator and Parents’ Association representative Christy Dangerfield said “It was a lovely morning and to see so many boys and their mothers all in one room was simply special. All of the boys and mothers enjoyed listening to Tommaso and his inspiring messages.”

Many thanks to the Year 8 PA volunteers for all their hard work in setting up the venue and serving the breakfast on the morning.
