Last Friday, two teams from our Army Cadet Unit participated in the first round of Exercise CyberTaipan 2021, a national cyber security competition run by the CSIRO. The Assistant Minister for Defence, Hon. Andrew Hastie MP visited the Cadet Unit to promote the importance of students utilising their STEM skills on career pathways to develop Australia’s digital sovereignty.

Cadet Corporal Ryan Tanner said, “I really appreciated the opportunity to meet the Assistant Minister for Defence. He was upfront about the strategic environment and the importance of cyber security. He was happy to sit and listen about how we were going to approach the competition and troubleshoot security issues”.

The cadets worked for 6 hours fixing security vulnerabilities and strengthening access to systems in a virtual environment. Round 2 is in October and the teams hope to make the National finals.
