Over the weekend the School took our 1st XI Hockey Team Head Coach Eddie Ockenden to Bunbury to host a free hockey clinic for the community.

The event attracted over 120 local hockey enthusiasts aged 10 to 18 who enjoyed a series of hockey skill sessions, and friendly matches with Eddie and a team of Christ Church hockey players.

Eddie is a four-time Olympian, as well as a recipient of multiple World Cup gold medals. He has also been named Youth Player of the Year 2008, and within the Australian side three-time Kookaburras’ Player of the Year. Among many of his awards is his attainment of International Youth Player of the Year 2008, and within the Australian side as three-time Kookaburras’ Player of the Year. Most recently, Eddie co-captained the Kookaburras at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games where they won Gold.

Christ Church Grammar School Principal Alan Jones said he was delighted to visit Bunbury and have an opportunity to talk about the benefits of a Christ Church education.

“It was great to have so many young hockey enthusiasts join us at the Bunbury Hockey Stadium for the sessions, thank you to everyone who came out for what was a wonderful day,” he said.

“All participants had a great time and left with more hockey skills and tactics than when they arrived.”

“Eddie and the coaches did a phenomenal job with the children attending. The clinic was such a special opportunity for the kids to meet and learn from a celebrated Olympian.”
