Two Christ Church boarding students returned home to Broome last weekend to help inspire the next generation of local swimmers, joining Head Swimming Coach Will Greenwood to deliver a community swimming clinic in the Kimberley.

Hosted in partnership with Methodist Ladies’ College (MLC) and the Broome Barracudas Swim Club, the clinic brought together boys and girls aged 10 to 15 for a weekend of coaching, mentoring and race preparation.

For Flynn Penegar (Year 9) and Will Ward (Year 9), both boarders from Broome, the experience was particularly meaningful, providing an opportunity to give back to the community where their own swimming journeys began.

Across the weekend, young swimmers refined their technique, developed race strategies and gained valuable insight into the commitment and mindset required to compete at state and national level.

“This is our second year running the clinic, and it has once again been an incredibly rewarding experience,” said Mr Greenwood.

“It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm from the local swimmers and for our students to have the opportunity to give back to their community and help inspire younger athletes.”

The initiative reflects Christ Church’s strong culture of leadership and service beyond the classroom and pool. While the School’s swimming program continues to enjoy outstanding success, including seven PSA Swimming titles in the past decade, the weekend was equally about mentorship, connection and community.

Christ Church and MLC also hosted a community sundowner, bringing together local families and strengthening connections within the Broome community.

Thank you to Will Greenwood, Sarah Boulton, Flynn Penegar, Will Ward and old boy, Lochlan Penegar (’25) for their contribution to a memorable and impactful weekend.
