Over 1600 boys and staff gathered last Thursday to commemorate the School’s foundation and 107th birthday. The special occasion included a ceremonial walk with the ‘Torch of Learning’ from Christ Church Claremont to the gym. The ‘Torch of Learning’ was created in the School’s centenary year as a symbol of our motto ‘God is our leader, learning is our light’.

Father Peter Boyland, Rector of Christ Church parish, and School Chaplain Frank Sheehan led a service, attended by Principal Alan Jones, members of the Executive, Senior School Prefects and Prep House Captains.

Captain of School Oliver Henderson opened the occasion with a reflection on the School’s history and founder, Canon W J McClemans who established Christ Church Grammar School in 1910. Oliver spoke on the significance of the ‘Torch of Learning’ and how the team culture at Christ Church is what makes the School a special place.

David Fardon, Christ Church old boy and significant community member, was the guest speaker and spoke on the vision and achievements of Canon W J McClemans, highlighting the importance of serving others.

During the morning a number of staff were recognised for their years of service. The list of those recognised can be viewed here.
